Isle of Wight Zoo tiger enclosures

The Isle of Wight zoo has the UK's, if not Europe's top Tiger Enclosure. At the beginning of 2004, Zaun were commissioned to design and manufacture a new welded mesh enclosure suitable to keep the tigers in, but strong and safe enough so that the public can get a close look at these beautiful animals. The zoo chose Zaun's Duo8 mesh up to a height of 6m including a 1m cranked section at the top. Thanks to the use of twin 8mm horizontal wires and 6mm verticals, the mesh pattern of 200 x 50mm is very open and this creates an unobstrusive fence that does not spoil the publics viewing. The first phase of work consisted of 120m of fencing and future phases are soon to be delivered.

Zaun has also supplied similar tiger enclosures to the Riga Zoo in Latvia and monkey enclosures to Whipsnade Animal Park.

Devonport Royal Navy Dockyards, Plymouth

A new facility at the dockyards plus the Submarine Refit Centre for the UK's nuclear submarine capacity needed enhanced security. Zaun were asked to design a fencing system specifically for this project. The fencing comprised a panel of Zaun's HiSec fence on one side of the fence with a special panel made of 4mm wires in a 50mm x 75mm pattern on the other. Running between the panels is an electric pulse secure fence by Harper Challice Group. The 2.4m high fencing offers a formidable barrier and demonstrated how Zaun can offer tailored solutions for a site that had many complex areas that needed bespoke parts designed and manufactured.

University of Central England

The University had invested heavily in its Moor Lane Sports Centre but were concerned about securing the site from the public. They had originally decided to install some 800m of very high specification railings to the frontage of the site - but this would then leave the rest of the site exposed. For a similar cost of the railings, Zaun was able to supply mesh fencing around the whole 1800m perimeter. Three types of mesh were chosen depending upon the area of the site - Zaun's Gemini Fencing to the frontage of the site (where appearance was of most importance), HiSec to an area backing onto an industrial area and Duo6 Perimeter along the back of the site along a canal.
