At Zaun we pride ourselves
on manufacturing fencing and gates that are tailored to meet our customers'
needs, and nowhere is this more evident than at the Isle of White Zoo,
where Zaun have supplied the fencing for the Tiger enclosures.
"The tigers that are in the enclosures are incredibly powerful animals
and consequently the fencing chosen had to be extremely strong" explains
Alastair Henman, technical and production director. "This requirement
had to be met while at the same time allowing a high degree of through
visibility for the visitors to see these amazing animals. It was decided
that the most suitable fencing was our Duo8 weld mesh, which is incredibly
strong and rigid as a result of the transverse wires being welded on both
sides, rather than just one side, of the vertical wires. The strength
of this mesh means that it will require little if any maintenance in the
years to come. The fence was also powder coated which will further extend
the life of the fence, and also helps it blend in to the animals' environment."
The enclosures have received high praise from TV broadcaster and naturalist
Chris Packham who said "It truly is world class. I have been lucky
enough to see facilities all over the world and this is up there with
the best of them, there is certainly nothing like it in the UK."
Similarly, David Kenyon, the zoos public relations manager was equally
impressed with the quality of the fencing and said "The Zaun Duo
perimeter fencing system quickly emerged as the ideal solution for our
new enclosures, and Zaun's technical department worked hard to ensure
that our unique project was delivered to specification and on time.
We have now appointed Zaun as our official supplier for the rest of our
five-year development and any further development we might undertake."
