Rednock School in Gloucester is in the final stages of a massive redevelopment, where Zaun Ltd was the chosen fencing supplier for the state of the art football pitch.
The school has been undergoing development for well over a year now, but that is only a consequence of the sheer scale of the project. Rednock, like many other schools had roughly equal proportions of developed land and sports fields. The challenge was to build a new school and new outdoor sports facilities whilst keeping the school open.
To solve this problem, the new school was developed on the site of the old playing fields, and following that, the old buildings will be demolished to create new playing space. The 3G pitch is now completed and uses Zaun sports fencing to create a Multi-Pitch. “We find that these are very popular nowadays”, says Dan Sullivan of Zaun. “They consist of a full size pitch with goal recesses to allow football to be played at a competitive level, but the sides of the main pitch also has recesses to give the option of playing a number of 5 a side matches instead.” Zaun Duo Sports fencing was chosen for the project, in which the panels are fixed to the posts every 200mm instead of 400mm. Each of the fixing points uses a rubber EPDM insert that insulates the panel from the post and so reduces rattle during play to a minimum. This is a common problem in schools where noise from pitches can distract classes being taught indoors.
The fencing behind the goal areas is 4.4m high to give excellent ball retention, and in part uses Zaun’s 3m high single panel which makes installation easier
