There’s no denying that Britain is going through a political and economic crisis period. The recent Brexit decision has had a devastating effect on the pound’s value and has created international tension between Britain and Europe. Meanwhile, the nation’s current Prime Minister wasn’t elected by the British people (having taken over directly from her predecessor), and the Labour opposition is struggling to provide a cohesive alternative due to a rebellion within the parliamentary party. For many people, Britain feels a lot less secure and safe than it used to. But are ordinary citizens like you really more at risk now due to the economic and political situation? Sadly, the answer is ‘yes’.
Crime generally rises during periods of economic downturn, which increases the likelihood of private residences, business premises and privately-owned sites being broken into, vandalised or stolen from. A sense of political unrest and dissatisfaction can also exacerbate this problem. It’s a sad fact that uncertainty and disillusionment usually breed violence and criminality.
However, there are steps you can take to protect yourself, your property and your business. Here at Zaun, we can’t fix the underlying social, economic and political problems of Great Britain, but we can help you stay safe during periods of turmoil. If you own a property or business in a space that’s easily accessible by the public (and also by prospective miscreants), you may wish to invest in our security fencing or perimeter fencing to keep it safe. If you don’t have enough space around your property or business to deploy security fencing, you may wish to consider other security measures, such as CCTV, alarm systems or secure cladding solutions (which we also offer).
Of course, there’s no need to panic. There is likely to be a rise in criminal activity during the current period of uncertainty; however, it will probably be a gradual process – people don’t tend to turn to violence and criminality overnight, after all. You have plenty of time to decide whether you want to increase the security of your property or business, but we at Zaun believe that it would be a sensible precaution.
