These measures include bollards, blockers and stand-alone barriers that are separate from fences. But which type of hostile vehicle mitigation system is right for you? If you have a limited budget and can’t afford to install both types of HVM systems, it’s important to know which one to prioritise. 1. Fence-integrated HVM measures
Combining a hostile vehicle mitigation barrier with security fencing provides two significant advantages. Firstly, the hostile vehicle mitigation barrier benefits from the added strength and weight of the security fence. As a result, it may have a little more stopping power than a stand-alone barrier. Secondly, integrated HVM measures are harder to spot, meaning they stand a better chance of catching would-be intruders off-guard. However, it’s worth noting that integrated HVM measures also have two drawbacks. Because they are not highly visible, they do not always make effective deterrents. What’s more, because they are integrated with fencing, if one of these barriers becomes damaged, you’ll have to repair or replace an entire section of security fencing. If you need a powerful and very discreet HVM solution, fence-integrated measures are ideal. However, if you need something cost-effective that can act as a deterrent, you may be better off with an independent solution.
2. Independent HVM measures
Stand-alone barriers, bollards and blockers aren’t always as tough as fence-integrated HVM measures. What’s more, they may not be able to protect every stretch of your perimeter in the way that a fencing-based alternative can. However, they do have several significant advantages. There are many different varieties available, and they can be used in conjunction with one another to achieve the exact kind of hostile vehicle mitigation system that you need. They are also more cost-effective in many cases. Their high level of visibility even makes them excellent deterrents.
