About Us

On 7th November 1996, Alastair Henman and Paul Painter, friends from University, formed Zaun Ltd in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The goal was to supply Rigid Mesh Fencing systems into the United Kingdom for Security and Sports projects. 29 years later Zaun is the trusted manufacturing partner for sports and physical perimeter security.

In 2003, Zaun moved from Birmingham to Telford, before it’s final move to Steel Drive in Wolverhampton where it purchased the land and exisiting factory for the production of fencing systems.

It was at this point Zaun invested in it’s very first Rigid Mesh Machine “Blue” for the manufacturing of double-wire and 358 mesh fencing systems, and its Woven Mesh Machine machine. This was the start of the journey to becoming the only British in-house manufacturer of woven and welded mesh fencing systems.

Productivity up at Zaun

On the 5th March 2011; Lord Green, the then Minister for Trade and Investment opened our new 50,000 sq ft factory at Steel Drive, Wolverhampton.

This new factory doubled the manufatcuring capacity of Zaun and allowed the establishment of the Fencing Fabrication Factory (Factory A) and Mesh Manufatcuring Factory (Factory B).

In 2012, Zaun was appointed as one of the principal fencing contractors for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Through our in-house manufacturing capability, we designed, manufactured and supplied over 40km of permanent and temporary fencing for the Games, much of which remains in place today.

Following on from the sucess of London 2012, Zaun was appointed to protect the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

With newly developed Temporary HVM solutions this was the first majot deployment since the Olympics in the United Kingdom of a specalist rapid deployable HVM systems.

By 2017, Zaun was flying high around the globe with sucessful projects delivered across the UK, Europe and the GCC.

At this time Paul Painter exited the business after 21 years.

In 2024, Zaun invested yet again in another Weld Mesh Machine doubling their mesh manufacturing.

“Red” would now be the principle double wire mesh machine with “Blue” manufacturing 358 mesh such as Prison Systems and Super 10.

In 2025, Alastair Henmen exited the business after 29 years and Zaun joined the Fastline Group of Companies.

As part of a group that includes Fastline Steel Services, Paramount Steel Fence, Stoke Galvanising and Aspect Powder Coating the future has never looked brighter for Zaun.

Continual investment in personnel and equipment at our five-acre site in the West Midlands has ensured that Zaun has the most modern machinery and production software. This reduces wastage and speeds up production times, giving us the edge over our competition.

Zaun offers a complete service from initial site survey through to manufacture. Our standard and bespoke systems are high quality and are used by corporate, residential and local authority sectors.

Zaun’s products are manufactured in strategically located, purpose-built factories in the UK. We also have key regional offices in France and Dubai that serve our customers across continental Europe and the Middle East. In addition, we distribute globally to a host of countries. All of our factories and processes are accredited to ISO9001:2015 standards.

Our facilities are purpose-built, enabling us to offer a wide range of product sizes giving a range our competitors can only marvel at.

Our designers develop bespoke product solutions alongside our standard systems. This flexibility means we can produce fencing to exact requirements and support you with CAD designs and 3D illustrations and technical drawings.
