Picture-Perf Fencing and Gates by Zaun; in collaboration with Graepals, is changing the way we think about decorative fencing. Manufactured from either Aluminium or Stainless Steel at heights of 2.0, 2.4, 3.0, and 4.0m if offers clients and specifiers increased safety and visual impact compared to standard laser cut fencing systems, thanks to the revolutionary perforation process.

With perforations no larger than 8mm across the whole system it prevents any areas for finger traps and with the innovative fixing system, the striking appearance of the posts removes any gaps between panels and posts.

Zaun can offer two types of perforated fencing and gate options:

  • Picture-Perf which is perfect for a true photo realistic rendering of any photograph onto a fence or gate
  • Pattern-Perf which is perfect for a vector rendering of images, symbols and logos

Five reasons why Perforation is better than Laser Cutting…

  1. Reduced Risk of Sharp Edges: Perforation creates holes, leaving minimal to no exposed sharp edges. In contrast, laser cutting leaves a clean cut that can be very sharp. This minimizes the risk of cuts and injuries for users handling the perforated metal.

  2. Lower Heat Distortion: Perforation often uses mechanical punching, which generates minimal heat. Laser cutting, on the other hand, utilizes a concentrated beam of light, creating intense heat. This heat can distort the metal around the cut, potentially weakening the structure or warping the final product, especially for thin metals.

  3. Reduced Finger Trap Potential: Perforations, particularly smaller ones, are less likely to create gaps where fingers or small objects can get trapped. Laser cuts, especially intricate designs, can leave behind narrow openings that pose a finger trap hazard, particularly for products like fences or gates used around children.

  4. Maintains Material Strength: Perforation creates a series of holes, leaving a larger portion of the original material intact. Laser cutting removes a continuous section of material, potentially affecting the overall strength of the metal, especially for load-bearing applications.

  5. Simpler Safety Implementation: Perforated metal often doesn’t require additional finishing to address sharp edges. Laser-cut products might require grinding, deburring, or other processes to create a safe, finished product, introducing additional safety considerations during manufacturing.

Finish

Where applicable, all Zaun posts/panels/gates and painted auxiliary components (for example, clamp-bars, slide bolts etc.) benefit from a protective zinc layer and electrostatically applied polyester powder coating to BS1722 p16. Care is taken with pre-treatment to ensure sound adhesion between the zinc and paint layers. In a UK C1 environment, as defined in ISO 12944 p2, this should provide a useful life expectancy of the fence of at least 15-20 years. Life expectancy in all environments can be extended by maintaining the fencing with regular washing. Useful life will be reduced if the fencing is damaged. Any coating damage should be repaired to minimise the effect on useful life.

Enhanced painting systems such as marine coatings are also available for improved life expectancy in C2-C5M environments. For a complete list of colours, click here.
