Zaun Spectator Rails are specifically designed to improve safety for both players and spectators. When hosting any spectator sport, there is a requirement to keep an appropriate barrier between the crowd and the game area. Our spectator rail fencing creates a safe area around the perimeter, keeping players and spectators safe during play. Manufactured to the highest quality from a strong tubular section and supplied with your choice of mesh infills, making our spectator railings lightweight, robust and attractive.
Each spectator rail can be supplied without mesh or various mesh infills, including Duo Sports and Super Rebound. Each mesh infill is supplied with EPDM rubber inserts to insulate the panels from the noise and vibrations that occur from impacts during play, while stylish fixings hold the horizontal railings. In addition, each mesh panel is fixed to the posts using a full-length clamp bar, which keeps the mesh tight and secure, making it difficult for vandals to damage the panel to post fixings.
All Zaun spectator railing systems include a fence safety channel. Designed to be used on low-level fencing to protect players and spectators from the sharp edges of the welded mesh panels.
To complete the perimeter, gates can be designed to any size to allow maintenance equipment unfettered access to the sports pitch or demarcation zone. In addition, each gate can be supplied with your choice of locking mechanism for security, which can reduce the number of trespassers accessing the pitch without permission.
Zaun Spectator Rails can be manufactured to any pitch size and cost-effective and robust touchline solution designed to last. A kickboard wooden section can also be fixed to the base of the mesh panels for hockey and field sports applications. Solid panel infills are also available for advertising space.
As standard, the Zaun Spectator Rail is designed to BS 1722 part 14 as a fence and not as part of a fall restraint or crowd control barrier as used in a grandstand. A standard spectator rail for a sports pitch has a specified design load of 360N/m applied at 1.1m. However, the Zaun Spectator rail is designed to withstand double that at 700N/m at 1.1m.
Zaun can provide handrail/spectator railings designed for higher loads where this falls within the green guide (https://sgsa.org.uk/greenguide/), but fencing around a pitch is not the same as handrail restraints in a stadium.
Why use spectator rails?
Spectator Rails are a legal requirement for all non-league clubs for pitch demarcation and player and fans safety. Ideal for partitioning for football, hockey, rugby, cricket, running tracks, skate parks, velodromes and other sports pitches and sports arenas where spectators on the playing area pose a safety hazard. School playgrounds and other spectator enclosures may also use spectator rails are a form of demarcation to keep children within a safe play zone.

Finish
All Zaun posts/panels/gates and painted auxiliary components (for example, clamp-bars, slide bolts etc.) benefit from a protective zinc layer and electrostatically applied polyester powder coating to BS1722 p16. Care is taken with pre-treatment to ensure sound adhesion between the zinc and paint layers. In a UK C1 environment, as defined in ISO 12944 p2, this should provide a useful life expectancy of the fence of at least 15-20 years. Life expectancy in all environments can be extended by maintaining the fencing with regular washing. Useful life will be reduced if the fencing is damaged. Any coating damage should be repaired to minimise the effect on useful life.

Posts & Fixings
The spectator rail system features a post, EPDM rubber inserts and clamp bar configuration, providing a simple and easy installation method. Supplied with vandal-proof security fixings and installed using either power or hand tools.
Spectator Rails Variations
Posts are available in different lengths to accommodate panel heights and ground conditions. Additional variations are also available: Wall fixing or base plated. Change in height to higher fencing.
Gates
Pedestrian gates are single leaf 1.2m wide (or width to suit), framed in a 50mm x 50mm RHS with matching Zaun sports mesh welded inside the frame, with slide latch. Gate supplied with rubber bump stop and 2 x suitable gate posts.
Vehicle access gates are double leaf (single leaf vehicle gates available) 3.0m wide (or width to suit), framed in 50mm x 50mm RHS with matching Zaun sports welded inside the frame, with drop bolts and slide latch. Gate supplied with rubber bump stop and 2 x suitable gate posts.
Safety
It is recommended that a safety channel or capping strip is applied to protect people from the sharp edges of the mesh for low-level fences.
