There’s something a little bit exciting but unnerving about brushing shoulders regularly with people you’ve only previously seen on TV.
So it was in St Petersburg this week at the annual SportAccord Convention. Zaun was there to push our range of sports solutions and event overlay to the organisers of the major spectaculars that are a part of the global sporting calendar.
We pulled together a sports-specific brochure for the Sport Accord event. We filled our stand with our award-winning counter-terror perimeter protection systems proven on last year’s London Olympics and autumn political conferences for the major parties. They include ArmaWeave, HiSec, HiSec Super and DualGuard, and the award-winning Rapid Deployable System and MultiFence.
That’s all standard fare for a business that has done more than 20 of these sorts of exhibitions over the past year.
But when someone from Russian TV shoves a microphone in your face for an interview to be broadcast that day, it starts getting a little weirder.
Even more so, a Sport Accord, when you are introduced to Lord Sebastian Coe, a personal idol of mine and the boss of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, then to Jacques Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee, and finally to Russian President Vladimir Putin!
