Paul Painter, Zaun’s Managing Director, appeared on Gabby Logan’s lunchtime show on BBC Radio 5 Live last Thursday to discuss how plans to develop a new high-speed travel rail line between London and Birmingham in 2025 will benefit West Midlands’ businesses.

Announced by Transport Secretary Lord Adonis, the proposed train line will take 43 minutes to travel between the two destinations at 250 mph and provide a faster transportation link for commuters throughout the country, with the opportunity to develop it further and reach as far as Scotland.

Paul Painter explained: “It’s a step in the right direction as we start to invest in the future. 50 per cent of Zaun’s business is situated in the South East, so the high-speed travel rail line would help us in that process and open up a lot more business to us.

“The Midlands generally needs better connections with these areas, as well as Scotland and overseas that can tend to feel quite isolated from us. The Government is encouraging more business from London to settle in Birmingham and the wider region to improve communications between the two locations.”
