Top tips for successful and secure sporting events

Top tips for successful and secure sporting events

11th September 2015

With the Rugby World Cup now just around the corner, Britain is preparing to go rugby mad. While rugby doesn’t draw quite the crowds of football, and the fans are known for being a little more friendly to say the least, the tournament does bring with it some security issues. As well as the giant scale security infrastructure of the tournament itself, there will be many other smaller, connected events in pubs, clubs, parks and other venues up and down the country, as well as the rest of the rugby loving world. Here are some top tips for ensuring your sporting events run as smoothly and as safely as possible…

Insurance

Make sure you are fully covered for every aspect of your event. Insurance companies will pick your policies apart, looking for any excuse to not pay out, should something go wrong.

Community

Involve the community wherever possible. Ensuring all of the dates and potential disruptions are well-known will help to avoid any issues from disgruntled locals when the event is underway. Getting the community on your side can also help with promotion and raise awareness of any security fears you may have.

Transparency

Be absolutely transparent with all event details, costs and potential disruptions. Do not sell false hopes, as this can lead to problems down the line.

Planning

Plan way ahead of schedule. Perform risk assessments, ask advice from those who have been in your position before, and make sure you know what you’re letting yourself in for.

Have a great team

Build a close-knit team, and ensure the organisers and security staff are on the same page. Make sure you hire plenty of experienced professionals, and keep them updated.

Back-up plans

Always have adequate back-up plans in place for everything. Things can and will go wrong. Be prepared.

Security

Perform risk assessments and hire professionals to assess your security needs. Never skimp on equipment like barriers, fencing and signage. You’re better off being too secure than not secure enough. Here at Zaun, we manufacture a huge range of security equipment for events of all shapes and sizes. Get in touch today and let us help you keep your event safe and successful.
