HiSec fencing on first phase of East West Rail

HiSec fencing on first phase of East West Rail

14th July 2015

Rail perimeter systems manufacturer Zaun has supplied high security fencing for the first phase of construction on the East West Rail Link.

East West Rail is a major project to establish a strategic railway connecting East Anglia with Central, Southern and Western England. It is split into three distinct sections: Western, Central and Eastern.

Work has already begun on the Western section, with phase 1 being an upgrade of the line between Oxford and Bicester in a collaboration between Network Rail and Chiltern Railways and connection of the railway to the Chiltern main line at Bicester with the construction of 1km of new railway.

Last month, the down line permanent way was connected together near to the M40 road bridge and re-established the rail connection between Bicester and Oxford for the first time since the removal of the existing single track a year ago.

Zaun has supplied 825 metres of 3m-high HiSec Super6 mesh fencing panels to Wildside Ltd, a local contractor which specialises in vegetation clearance, fencing and environmental work.

Wildside has been working on clearing trees and fencing for 18 months in collaboration with joint venture Buckingham Group Carillion on the line between Bicester and Oxford where the Zaun fencing has gone in alongside the enhanced freight facilities at MoD Bicester.

Zaun’s HiSec Super fencing was developed in consultation with the Home Office as its premier high security system for sensitive sites. Super8 and Super10 have received Security Rating certification to LPS1175 and entry into the Red Book from the Buildings Research Establishment.

In addition to links to the Chiltern main line, East West Rail will link to the Great Western main line at Didcot Parkway, the West Coast main line at Bletchley and the Midland main line at Bedford Midland.

In time, from Bedford, it will connect East to Cambridge, Ipswich and Norwich using part of the former Varsity Line.
